My homies at the shop started tattooing at 12:13 in the afternoon and worked until late in the night doing $13 tattoos from sheets of flash drawn around the concept of "13". The day was a huge success and a bunch of money was raised for a good cause. Exploring and provoking that layer of fire underneath our skin. For some it is right under the surface, it heats the skin and even escapes through hot flesh and flashes of ember from our throats. For some it's buried so deep inside us, our skin is cold, our guts are made of stone and we can barely feel warmth coming from us in the most provocative circumstances. Men and women cloth themselves in layers of starched collars, power ties and pretentious uniforms. We plaster our offices with diplomas showing our dedication to rehearsed manners and insincere social niceties. Under these uniforms there is a violent, thrashing, beast full of demonic aggression. No matter how many ties we wear, or banks accounts we fill, we still spend our time alone, when no one is watching, with horrible secrets that curl our lips and fork our tongues. With elaborate, pretentious frames contrasting dimly lit monstrous figures i point the viewer inward toward that mammal inside them they strive to hide but can barely contain.
